What is sin?

Anything we do that is not of God’s will is sin. It is important to remember that although God hates sin He absolutely loves sinners. God’s primary commandment is to love Him with all of our heart, strength, mind and soul. That is the only commandment we have all broken, for who can truly say I have always loved God like that?

Matthew 22:37 – 40 Jesus replied: ” `Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: `Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Sin separates us from Him and that is why He hates it so much, because He longs to be with us whom He loves so much. Remember God is able to distinguish the passenger from the luggage. He sent Jesus to be the perfect sacrifice to take away our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. When we ask Jesus Christ save us He removes the sin from us and we are able to be in relationship with God the Father.

Romans 8:3 – 4 For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, 4 in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.
